Cruising is the perfect holiday for everyone! Whether it's a weekend getaway with your friends (my latest cruise), a family or romantic holiday, or a special event celebration, there is something for everyone. They are great value for money as once you are on board, all your food and entertainment is included, and you only have to unpack once!
Here in SA, we have been long forgotten when it comes to Adelaide departures. That has recently changed over the last couple of years with P&O Cruises offering regular sailings over a 2-3 month period at the beginning of the year. Princess Cruises have also now announced that from 2020, they will offer no less than 20 cruise departures from Adelaide! This is great news for all of us now that we don't have to fly interstate. Add this to the departures that Cunard & CMV Cruises offer, there will be a cruise for every age & occasion with a departure on offer soon from November through to April with one of these major cruise lines.
Checking in for your cruise at the Outer Harbour Terminal is a quick and easy process. You are guided by staff to drop off your luggage before making your way up the escalator where you will check in and set up your on board account. Once you are on board, go check out your cabin and then start exploring the ship! A good tip is to go straight to the restaurant that you would like to dine in first and make a table reservation as certain restaurants book out fast!!
The next thing to do, is to grab yourself a cocktail and relax! The rest is up to you! I recently sailed on one of P&O's weekend sailings with 3 friends. Even though cabins can take up to 4 people per cabin, we chose to book two cabins with an interconnecting door. This gave us more space as we all know how hard it is for 4 ladies to get ready at once!
P&O have set theme nights (completely up to you if you want to do these or not). Our first night was the Bianco White Party where you dress all in white and party up on the top deck all night long. Our second night was the Gatsby extravaganza! After dressing up in our roaring 1920's gear, we made our way up to the cocktail party. Earlier on in the day they offered dancing lessons for those who wanted to learn 20's style moves like the Charleston or the Swing. What was very clever though, is how they adapted 20's music to current modern songs which got everyone up dancing. Longer cruises will offer additional theme nights like the Back to School Party, the Nero Black Party & the Summer Sail Away Party.
What ever cruise ship you sail on, there are many activities that you can choose to do. You can be as busy as you like, or as relaxed as you like. Join in on the quiz shows, the cocktail classes, the deck games, food or wine classes, watch a movie, the adventure activities, the ever popular Bingo or just go up on deck and relax and read a book! It's your choice!
Kids are very well looked after on board by having amazing kids clubs available for all ages. They will be kept so busy and entertained that they won't even miss the internet!
And for those who want to get away from the kids....there are kid free zones too ;)
You can choose to dine in one of the main included restaurants or you can choose to dine at one of the specialty restaurants, but these generally have a surcharge. Depending on the length of your cruise, there's also a range of beverage packages available to pre-purchase.
So what cruise destination will you visit? Will it be a weekend cruise to nowhere, or to Kangaroo Island, Port Lincoln or Wallaroo? Maybe it will be to Fremantle or Singapore? Hong Kong or Thailand? Tasmania or Melbourne? New Zealand or the South Pacific Islands? Where ever you want to go, we will have the cruise for you! All these exciting destinations are now available from Adelaide. Just remember, you will need a passport if you choose an international destination, but if you choose an Australian only cruise, then photo ID is all you need.
